Best Birthday Gift

It was almost Mum’s birthday, Dad knew a great present for her, and Kai was very excited. Kai and his parents weren’t the richest, as they were a bit to frugal at times. This present for Mum’s birthday however had to be brought, it was the only present she was going to get. Yet some home, Kai was still brought the terrible news that there wasn’t enough money to buy the gift in time. After having to so long keep the gift a secret from Mum, it now did not matter at all.
One day after the end of school, the day after the disappointment, Kai went straight into his room, not even making the smallest of sounds on the way home. His room was very quite, which was odd as it was always somehow the room where the most noise came from, Dad said. Kai never agreed with his father especially after not being able to get Mum’s present. Kai felt a lamentation grow, although he doesn’t know what that word means. Slamming his head against his bed, teddy, cupboard, perhaps too hard, his room soon started to sound the loudest in the house.

Kai felt so mad against his father, yet somehow he felt to blame. He started to do penance, for not getting angry sooner, or not buying the gift himself. His anger started to hurt him, so he screamed.

Mum came in after hearing the inscrutable noises come from his room. Immediately taking Kai in her arms, Kai calmed down with ease, as he always enjoyed comfort with his mother. Mum now mollifying Kai, he felt less angry and remembered not to tell Mum why he was angry as that might ruin the secret of her gift.
