To stiffly describe Vinz, he simply is the most frowzy appearing fennec fox out of the pack as well as the most suspicious, especially when hunting for food. I never paid much attention to him, he was normally neglected by everyone but he didn’t seem to mind. Not that it matters now anyway after our last hunting trip.
One day the pack including Vinz and I went hunting out in the desert as usual. This wasn’t normally that exciting as we only hunted for the little things we could find in pebble patches, which there was always plenty of. It was the same though, mice, tasty but plain, wouldn’t mind to try hunting for something else. Vinz seemed to have the very same interest, as almost appearing sidekick, started to walk beside me imperceptibly explaining his hunting plan, of getting different better food.
I was baffled for a couple of reasons being: why he decided to stick with
me all of a sudden, and why is he suddenly so communal? Regardless I simply listened to his hunting scheme he only wanted me and him to put into action.
The plan was wayward, I worried if the two of us would safely be able to
pull it off. It involved one of us to simply wait in a new region the pack never explored, the hedge heath, and act as bate to attract a new kind of animal I have never heard of. Not informing the rest of the pack about this strategy, we made our way to the hedge heath.
I was given the job of being bate, which lead me to ask what we were
hunting and why was I, an animal who hunts act as bate for another animal. Vinz didn’t answer instead putting himself into his position he didn’t explain to me. I waited for a long time it felt, wondering if the others had already gone home with plenty of food.
While still waiting here I heard something russel in the hedges. I wanted
to start hunting for it but that might have defeated the purpose of acting as bate. Waiting a while longer I was force back by the cry of a monster. Realizing now where its came from, I witness through the hedges a mighty beast emerge that I had never seen before. My first instinct was to run, how could we face off against such a beast? I ran back to our home, unaware if I was doing as planned or where Vinz was. After miles of running the beast vanished from my trail.
I wanted to ask the others to come help me look for Vinz, until upon my return everyone was huddle together as if they were maintaining warmth in the heat of the desert. My friend Clive turned is head round from the huddle, asking where I had been. Through a small glimpse of the huddle I saw that the other fennec foxes were looking over a body of another, who didn’t move or cry. Some how I wasn’t so surprised at this point despite the number of questions I have now about the corpse of Vinz
